Gerard's work includes:

Sustainability Appraisal and SEA.
    • Leading the SEA and Sustainability Appraisal of the North Hertfordshire Land Allocations DPD
    • Leading the first two stages (scoping report and options appraisal) of a SEA and Sustainability Appraisal of the Core Strategy and Development Policies for the North Hertfordshire LDF and acting as the quality manager for the appraisal of the Preferred Options
    • Leading the Sustainability Appraisal of the Draft London Skills and Employment Strategy for the London Development Agency
    • Leading the high level Sustainability Appraisal of the South East Regional Sustainability Framework on behalf of the South East England Regional Assembly
    • Leading all stages of a SEA of the West Dunbartonshire Community Strategy
    • Leading the SEA of the Draft Operational Programme for the Southern and Eastern Region in Ireland
    • Leading the sustainability appraisal of the draft Dundee and Angus Structure Plan, and Angus Local Plan and the SEA of the Orkneys Structure Plan
Sustainable Development Policy and Evaluation
  • Leading the evaluation of the Community Recycling and Economic Development (CRED) Programme
  • Leading the review of Cynnal Cymru (the Welsh Sustainable Development Forum)
  • Undertaking research for the South East of England Regional Assembly on sustainable development structures for the South East, and co-ordinating the production of the South East Integrated Regional Framework on behalf of the Assembly
  • Undertaking an evaluation of local environment projects in Scotland on behalf of Forward Scotland. The evaluation looked at their contribution to sustainable development and environmental justice and the levels of community involvement and partnership working
  • Jointly undertaking an assessment of the effectiveness of the National Assembly of Wales in promoting sustainable development
  • Assisting with research into the effectiveness of the Regional Sustainable Development Frameworks
  • developing and delivering a training programme on sustainable development for South Oxfordshire District Council
Community and Stakeholder Involvement
  • Managing a long-term community and stakeholder consultation process in Stonehouse and Millbay in Plymouth (in association with LDA Urban Design and Roger Tym and Partners).  The process ran for almost two years, and fed into the development of the Millbay Action Plan and the Stonehouse and West Hoe Study
  • Managing the community and stakeholder consultation for the development of the Waterspace Strategy for Reading
  • Jointly producing a briefing for DEFRA on good practice and benefits of community engagement and sustainable development.
  • Managing the production of Plymouth Food Strategy for Plymouth Health Action Zone, including community and stakeholder consultation
  • Facilitating sessions on development of Community Strategies for LSPs in Huntingdonshire, London Borough of Sutton and Devizes
