Helen’s recent projects and experience includes:

  • Advising on the development of the UK Sustainable Development Strategy
  • Developing and delivering training and workshops for Local Strategic Partnerships (including Luton and Dunstable LSP), and producing guidance and a toolkit to support Environment Agency engagement with LSPs and Community Strategy Partnerships;
  • Contributing to the development of climate change strategies for local authorities, including Bedfordshire County Council and Sefton Borough Council;
  • Evaluating climate change tools for local authorities, and producing a database and guidance to support Scottish local authorities work in mitigating and adapting to climate change (on behalf of SNIFFER and funded by the Scottish Government);
  • Managing research and advising on the sustainability and social impacts of flood risk management, air quality, regulation of pollution, waste management and water quality;
  • Work on waste management issues, including reviewing waste minimisation initiatives amongst UK local authorities (for Edinburgh City Council), interviewing industry, small business, campaign groups and government representatives to inform sustainable waste management policy, and facilitating a recycling scheme for South Northamptonshire District Council;
  • Delivering community and stakeholder consultation events to support the sustainability appraisal of the Bedfordshire and Luton Core Waste Strategy and North London Waste Plan, and undertaking focus group research on households' attitudes to buying 'green' products to inform government policy.
