Mary's experience includes:

    Sustainability Policy

  • Leading CAG's work, with SEI, Cambridge Econometrics and CURE, to develop a 'route map' towards Ecological Footprint and carbon footprint reduction for the South East region;
  • Leading CAG's study, with SEI, to develop a 'Context and Issues Paper' for the South East England Regional Assembly on 'Reducing the South East's Ecological Footprint';
  • Leading a project for English Heritage Yorkshire Region to develop a set of indicators to monitor the state of the historic environment, working closely with relevant stakeholders;
  • Contributing to the sustainability appraisal of the draft Dundee and Angus Structure plan;
  • Researching the usage and availability of countryside indicators for the Countryside Agency, covering economic, social and environmental issues;
  • Researching sustainable regeneration options for Hastings, on behalf of Friends of the Earth.

Environmental Management

  • Advising Tunbridge Wells Borough Council on development of its environmental strategy;
  • Training officers and members in environmental management for Oxfordshire County Council, the London Boroughs of Lewisham, Greenwich and Haringey, including waste management issues.

Community Consultation

  • Leading facilitation of the Sydenham Forum, on behalf of the London Borough of Lewisham, on proposed changes to the High Street;
  • Assisting with community consultation on the North London Waste Plan, including facilitation of community meetings;
  • Researching the attitudes of faith groups in London towards the planning system, on behalf of the GLA;
  • Leading a consultation process for the London Borough of Lambeth on contentious options for the future of the Brockwell Lido, a resource strongly valued by the community;
  • Leading a consultation process on Lambeth's future transport strategy, involving community meetings in five town centres across the borough, focusing particularly on socially-excluded groups;
  • Assisting with community consultation on Minerals extraction and Waste management options for Bedfordshire.
Transport and accessibility
  • Contributing to Mott MacDonald's recent study for the Commission for Integrated Transport, on the scope for taxis to contribute more to transport in rural areas;
  • Managing CAG's input to the DfT's pilot project on Accessibility Planning in 2003/4, which focused on the ways in which transport and related measures could improve access to health;
  • Leading CAG's research for the Countryside Commission in 2004, with the TAS Partnership, on ways of improving access to health-care in rural areas;
  • Leading several large-scale consultation processes to consult stakeholders in the London Borough of Camden on potential Clear Zone measures, which aim to reduce traffic impacts;
  • Leading CAG's work for DfT to develop a methodology to assess the social and economic impacts of Clear Zones.
