Process & Overview

The process for this developmental stage of the community engagement project has been drafted to be as open as possible to allow for maximum input from second pilots, whilst providing a framework on which to base debate.

What we have provided is a structured way of thinking about community engagement activities and their impact on the sustainability of organisational and consumer behaviours. This structure enables those working on projects to develop and record the following:

  • The aims and purpose of their community engagement
  • The objectives for their community engagement
  • How people and organisations behave before the intervention
  • What happens during the intervention
  • How peoples’ and organisations’ behaviour has changed after the intervention
  • Examine other influencing factors

The process has evolved around standard project management and evaluation practice and has the following stages, the shaded areas we have called set up;

Purpose of the Community Engagement Tool

I'm In: what the pilot projects said about the CESD Tool
The Community Engagement and Sustainable Development (CESD) tool has been piloted by five local authorities and a community-based organisation. Here we report briefly from a selection of these pilots projects, including Bristol City Council, Durham County Council and Lewes District Council, about how they have found working with the tool so far. >>

Become a project participant
WWF-UK and CAG are currently inviting organisations to take part in the wider research phase to provide evidence that will enable us to evaluate the impact of community engagement on long term behaviour change. The Tool is designed for practitioners who aim to influence behaviour in relation to sustainable development. >>

Why choose community engagement?
This is the question that has
driven this project designed
to help local project workers
