Climate change and sustainable energy
There is overwhelming evidence that climate change is happening and is having a real impact on our lives, and that its impacts are likely to increase in their severity and frequency over the coming decades. With UK and international commitments for tackling climate change, there is increasing pressure to mitigate greenhouse gases and take action to adapt to existing and future impacts.
CAG Consultants works with local authorities, regional and national government and other stakeholders and promotes a partnership approach to tackling climate change. We support the Nottingham Declaration Partnership, the Improvement & Development Agency (IDeA) and Regional Improvement & Efficiency Partnerships (RIEPs) through the Climate Change Best Practice Programme.
The Nottingham Declaration Action Pack, developed by CAG Consultants and Scottish Declaration on Climate Change Action Pack helps guides local authorities through the five stages of preparing a strategy. It addresses both mitigation and adaptation.
CAG Consultants can help you through all or any of the five stages:
- Getting started
- Assess current and likely situation
- Develop strategic approach
- Prepare an action plan
- Implementation
The new national indicators on climate change are now a new driver for action by local authorities and LSP partners. We can provide support in developing strategies and programmes to address:
- NI 185 CO2 reduction from Local Authority operations
- NI 186 Per capita reduction in CO2 emissions in the LA area
- NI 188 Planning to adapt to climate change
