Adapting to Climate Change: Local areas’ action provides examples of how local authorities and their partners are adapting to climate change. The report draws on the lessons learned from 27 case studies from across the English regions, which describe how local areas are preparing to adapt, and are making progress against National Indicator 188.
Local areas, whether or not they have signed up to NI188 need to demonstrate progress towards assessing and addressing the risks and opportunities of a changing climate under the Comprehensive Area Assessment. This report summarises the key activities that local authorities and their partners are undertaking to build adaptive capacity and deliver adaptation actions through:
- Organisational change and leadership
- Assessing current and future risks
- LSP and community engagement
- Early implementation of adaptation actions
- Strategy and action plan development, and
Monitoring, review and evaluation
The report features a clickable NI188 matrix which leas to relevant case studies; and draws on the lessons learned from the experiences of local authorities and their partners, and highlights the importance of:
- Leadership
- Raising awareness
- Engaging and working in partnership
- Embedding climate change in decision-making
- Resourcing action
- Delivering wider mitigation and sustainability benefits
